2025 Movie Review: Sky Force
Story:
Sky Force is not just a defence service action-drama but a tale of bravery and sacrifice, set in the backdrop of the 1965 India-Pakistan war. The tale follows Group Captain Kumar Om Ahuja (Akshay Kumar) and Squadron Leader T Krishnan Ahuja, dubbed Tabby (Veer Pahariya), two valiant Indian Air Force (IAF) pilots. They find themselves in a precarious one as tension mounts between India and Pakistan, and their simultaneous quest for vital intelligence needs plummets their mettle into the sky. The story expertly melds the drama of wartime strategy with deeply emotional family scenes, especially those featuring Ahuja’s wife, Preeti (Nimrat Kaur), and Tabby’s pregnant wife, Geeta (Sara Ali Khan). That gives the movie’s climax an edge-of-the-seat tribute to the resilience and ingenuity of the Indian Air Force — the stakes are high.
Performance Review:
• Group Captain Ahuja, played by Akshay Kumar, serves as the dignified, indomitable face of a man leading from the front, under duress. His charisma and emotional depth give the role gravitas, especially in scenes that highlight his relationship with Tabby and his commitment to serve.
• And as the major debutant Veer Pahariya, who is a revelation. He stands his ground alongside Akshay, bringing sincerity and charm to the timid, impulsive Tabby. His chemistry with Sara Ali Khan brings an emotional angle to the story.
• Sara Ali Khan hits a sentimental note as Geeta, a fidgety pregnant wife awaiting her husband’s safe return. Her moments of vulnerability and hope are affecting.
• Nimrat Kaur stands out in a smaller but crucial role as Preeti, who brings to the table a complex talk of a supportive but bubbling under spouse, complementing Ahuja’s personal touch.
• The supporting cast, especially Manish Chaudhari as Station Commander David Lawrence, lends its military backdrop a degree of authenticity.
Direction:
The film is sharply directed and stylishly shot, taking full advantage of its subject matter without descending into melodrama. The aerial combats are the highlights of the film as they depict the clear disparity between the resources of both Indian and Pakistani air forces. Even with this hefty dose of sci-fi butter, the director manages to balance fragorific spectacle with more human-scale emotional subplots, keeping us invested in both strike and flesh.
Highlights:
• The aerial dogfights are impressively shot, giving the characters incredible visuals and action-packed choreography that shows the intensity and high stakes of aerial combat.
“• The film’s patriotic tone, meanwhile, is just well-measured enough to be inspiring without you feeling like it’s preachy.
• The emotional complexity of the relationships between Ahuja, Tabby and their families provides an accessible human component to the war story.
• The background score grips you further in the experience, sending shivers down your spine.
• A cameo appearance in the second half is a twist of a kind — surprising and impactful.
