Movie Review : Superboys Of Malegaon
Superboys of Malegaon, helmed by Reema Kagti and produced by Excel Entertainment, is a warm tribute to the magic of filmmaking and the resilience of the small-town dreamers. Out now, the film features Adarsh Gourav, Vineet Kumar Singh, and Shashank Arora in lead roles.

Storyline
Set in the sleepy town of Malegaon, the film follows Nasir Shaikh (Adarsh Gourav), an ambitious young man running an ill-fated video parlour. To entice those viewers, Nasir skillfully cuts and stitches together clips from different movies, producing singular and unique experiences at the movies. Encouraged by the zealotiq response he joins a couple of friends to crack and create their own inexpensive parodies of top Bollywood tunes. They bond over their mutual love of cinema and through their love for each other a myriad of obstacles is overcome, illustrating the magical ability of a good story.
The Soul of the Film
Above all, however, Superboys of Malegaon is about friendship and creativity of the indomitable human spirit. Proceeding their work, it is based on the lives of everyday people with great ambitions that are able to gain great success through the madness of the dream. Whatever the circumstances though, this film is beautiful and it is so right for anyone who has ever wanted to make a big dream and make it happen.
Performances
• Adarsh Gourav gives a terrific performance as Nasir, with all the character’s optimism and determination ringing true.
Vineet Kumar Singh plays Farogh, a screenwriter with a serious disposition whose desire for original content causes friction in the group. His multi-layered performance imbues the story with flesh.
• Shashank Arora as Shafique, who brings comic relief tinged with poignancy, especially through moments of individual crisis that are undermining the group’s solidarity.
The chemistry of the ensemble cast adds to the film’s overall realism, making their collective journey feel authentic and inspiring.
Direction
Reema Kagti, the director, deftly treads the line between being funny and touching, crafting a story that entertains while also compelling you to think. Her scrupulous detailing of the socio-economic milieu of Malegaon have an authentic ring, and her attention to character development keeps the audience invested in the protagonists’ odyssey. With writer Varun Grover (also a lyricist in this film) in tow, Kagti delivers a screenplay with an organic amalgamation of fact and fiction, weaving the spirit of 2008 documentary Supermen of Malegaon into the body of a film that could be considered a heartfelt homage, if it wasn’t so fun.
